Subjective reality (what we think exists out there) Indicates that people respond to the subjective meaning a situation has for them, rather than to the objective features of that situation: charles horton cooley. Decline of the chicago school after the 1930s: hit the peak of its influence in the 1920s, but started to lose its position of dominance in the 1930s. A lot of american sociologist became interested in statistical studies. 1940s-1950s turn to structural functionalism, it displaced symbolic interactionism.
