P examines the reality of everyday life and how individuals make sense of their everyday experiences. Why is it called p: it examines how people focus on and give attention to particular phenomena in the world around them. Had its roots in 20th century philosophy. German, 1967 in english: shutz was interested in how in everyday life, people make sense of social reality and act on this reality, later p. Shutz"s ideas were popularized by peter berger and thomas luckkman. Did this through the book the social construction of reality (1966: comparison to other perspectives, weber"s ideas. Weber influenced shutz (he was trained in sociology and read weber"s work) Shutz was writing at the same time as mead and other early si"s. Not only were they writing at the same time, but they all shared an interest in the micro level of analysis. Si"s were interested in how cultural symbols governed social interaction among 2+ individuals.
