Document Summary
Rising group of cohabiters are in their 50"s. Beneficial to not be legally tied to someone. A lot of literature say that people who cohabitate have a strong instability in their relationship. This was originated from the lack of commitment from people a long time ago. But over the past 20 years, cohabitating has become a norm so it"s just seen as equivalent to a marriage. Use to be a difference, not so much now. Cohabitation: emotional, sexual, residential setting between 2 people. Common-law: a union recognized by society, friends, and families, of 2 people monogamously tied together without the civil ritual. For all we know, they are married. Domestic partner is a new classification that common-law people refer to each other. Looked at family life and saw that you can no longer equate love, marriage, and sex. Husband/wife and father/mother are separate roles, don"t need to equate.
