More and more people are getting divorced and remarried. You do not stop parenting after a divorce. The divorce is sometimes a better stage, people have resolved issues and moved on. Children can be financially dependent upon parents until 25-26. -> construction of parenthood + privatized parenthood: motherhood --> "intensive motherhood" - scripted. Conflict --> economic role + core role: fatherhood --> contextual --> less scripted. Average age of marriage: 31 - men. Getting married young - still less successful and stable. The older you get, the more you know who you are. Policies are changing, as people and society shifts. 3. 7 million with children, number of children who live with intact married households is decreasing, under 14 with common law is increasing. Common-law and children is more common now and accepted. 5 million over 65, 92% in private home, 55% in a couple relationship, 25% alone (mostly women), 11% with relatives, 8% nursing/residences.
