At one point or another, all sex activity has been regarded as deviant. Christianity only natural sex position is missionary. Many strict norms around acceptable sex activity: must be marital, monogamous, heterosexual genital & reproductive no sex as pleasure. However what is understood as sexual deviancy is multiple. Involve range of social reactions from weak to strong: meanings depend on time and place masturbation. Important distinction btwn how sexuality is practiced & how it is represented & understood: may be popular but remain deviant, masturbation, anal & oral sex sinful & deviant until end of 20th c. Includes # of pop deviant (immoral) sexual practices. Some forms of non-coital, non-heterosexual sex activity outside marital relship. Normal sexual deviance is the largest subctegory of sexual deviance. In terms of # of inds involved, types, frequency of behaviour. Are normal bc of stat frequency even if not regarded as such extra martial affairs.
