Con ned to room and speci c situations (ex. feedings) Absence of attachment and bonding with parents (ex. orphanages - by 4 1/2 had dif culty with recognizing facial expressions/emotions) Key processes identi ed by social learning theory absent. Shaping: gradually increase correspondence between the learner"s behaviour and the desired response (complex behaviour that requires more stages to learn - as getting closer, give reward) Self reinforcement - learn about performance standards of behaviour (ex. learn how to write - but write neatly) - genie - negative reinforcement when making nosies. Genie"s isolation meant that she had very little opportunity to observe even basic behaviours, or more complex behavioural patterns (e. g. dressing) Without language, children are unable to successfully undergo more complex socialization and learn about the values, norms and standards of a particular culture. Genie initially demonstrated little aptitude for the three components of language.
