Diffusion of responsibility by participants: deferral to expert authority reduced by perceived personal response. Moreover, even when the destructive effects of their work become patently clear, and they are asked to carry out actions incompatible with fundamental standards of morality, relatively few people have the resources (cid:374)eeded to resist authority(cid:863) (cid:894)milgra(cid:373) 1974(cid:895)
