Ratings were extreme when participants were alone. Less extreme in the presence of others: moderation effect, conclusion: people adjust responses in the presence of others. Sherif autokinetic effect study: autokinetic effect: visual perception phenomenon, a stationary, small point of light in the dark environment appears to move due to involuntary eye movement, test 1: isolated participants asked to estimate movement of light. Large variation across individuals in answers: test 2: test repeated in groups of three. Wednesday, november 23, 2016: test 3: repeated test 1 (in isolation) Did not return to original estimate from test 1: conclusion; tendency to conform is higher when task is uncertain.
