Document Summary
Social perception: refers to constructing an understanding of the social world from the data we get through our senses: the processes by which we form impressions of other peoples traits and personalities. Attribution: refers to the process of inferring the causes of a persons behaviour: e. g. motives, traits, and situational pressures. Schemas help us respond appropriately to situations. Help us perceive what information we are given. We can use schemas in our everyday life (walking into the kitchen and the burner is red, you wont put your hand on it because you know it is hot) Schemas can be negative through: stereotypes, bad rst impressions. Cognitive structures that describe the personalities of others. Organize our conceptions of others personalities and enable us to develop expectations about others behaviours self schemas. Organize our conception of our own characteristics. What we know to be of ourselves group schemas. Schemas regarding the members of a particular social group or social category.
