Social structure and personality (ssp) research is concerned with the relationship betwene macro-social systems or processes and individual feelings, attitudes, and behaviours. Structure of the labour market, systems of social stratification (social class, gender), industrialization, etc. Dyad: group of 2 people, smallest possible social group. Individual --> dyads --> small groups --> communities --> organizations & institutions --> social system. Alienation: the sense that one is uninvolved in the social world or lacks control over it. A subjective, psychological experience of losing touch with one"s self or human nature. Alienated from goods produced from process of production from themselves from other workers. Every person occupies a social position a designated location in a social system. The ordered and persisting relationships among these positions make up the social structure. The individual"s status is the single most important influence on his/her life. In canada, occupation is the main determinant of status. Status determines access to money and influence over others.
