Research designs: social research is in uenced by values, theory, practical considerations, ontology, epistemology and politics. The way in which social research is done is affected by what is motivating the researcher to conduct the study, their positions on the issue and their issue. The research process: theory is a central part of the research process, by building on old theories and creating new theories. What does it tell you about your topic: research process steps include, select topic, focus question, design a study, collect data, analyze data, interpret data, write a report. Parts of theory: theory: explaining an observed pattern or regularities. Composed of interrelated and usually veri able statements or propositions. Theory is made up of concepts, assumptions and relationships: theory speaks to the assumptions we make about daily life. We can study people because of these patterns and assumptions we are making. For example, students wearing jackets outside: outside of this theory we can talk about concepts.
