Research starts with a problem, develops a hypothesis then you test it. Looking at understanding people in their natural habitats. Go into field to being open as to what is going on. No preconceived idea of what is going on. Draws attention to important features to social interaction and provides guidelines for research in specific settings. Might be able to change as we discover more about the idea. We hold the idea of our theory loosely until we figure out what"s really going on. Expecting: to find pastors mad at the church. Found: embraced the role as a pastor not a female pastor. Different type of activism, works in the institution & is more slow process. Do your job correctly and well and you will be rewarded. Iterative process of working with data and analyzing data. Analyzing your data while still working on it in the field. Refining your concept then going back into the field for more research.
