Can"t limit our understanding to why somebody is in a particular position. There is nothing innate that makes somebody hold a lower status. Not interested in the reproduction of inequality or how people come to be in their position in society. Interested in how these things impact individuals meaning making. How inequality might impact how people may think about reality. Social stratification: the ways in which individuals or groups are ranked in society, reflecting different amounts of power, status, and prestige". Strat works in part to constrain who we come to interact with. Heath - ethnography of kids, how storytelling and language were used in parents talking to their children, white working class children were spoken to in factual ways.
