The study of human behaviour is the study of human lived experience and that human experience is rooted in people"s meaning, interpretations, activities, and interactions : the person"s own interpretation of their deviance. Commitment to a deviant identity: depends on, the strength of the relationship to others, how embedded one is in their network, strength of the connection to actors own identity. Ulmer"s threefold commitment framework: personal, moral, structural. It"s the right thing to do: factors that are external, born into it eg ses. If you have all three, that"s a very strong commitment to the identity. Real dealers : make most of their income from drug dealing; moved large quantities; keeping making deals; deal in public settings to strangers.
