Society needs to maintain its equilibrium: therefore, children need proper training so they are not a threat to society - parsons. Families being the training (or socialization - academic jargon) process: happens very early in the family unit, continues as we interact with different institutions. Higher socio-economic status are going to have more access to cultural resources - gives them an advantage and children reap from that advantage. Advantages of both the models: reproductive: focuses on the macro which makes it easy to generalize, gives an understanding that children have different experiences - sociocultural. Rooted in developmental psychology, including the work of piaget and vygotsky; understanding children as: active, children appropriating society, meaning they internalize experiences in their social world to make sense and develop their own interpretations.
