Something else teaches him (despite all the lessons of his upbringing) that the way he is currently going is wrong and that he needs something more. It"s hard to say that roger is a good father roger likes the idea of having someone depend on him, and being respected, and being adored but doesn"t even like to be called dad. He wants to be in a position of power with his son. He wants a father-son relationship that has all the perks, but no parental responsibility. Roger works on the receiving end of a company that smuggles people into belgium. He houses them and puts them to work on his own projects he pro ts from them. He"s only interested in the appearance of positive virtues faking them is useful. This view isn"t all that different than our own society: do what you need to do to survive.
