Document Summary

Leaving poverty behind along with stereotypes and negativity. Hamilton, ontario is known as steel city or the hammer . It is canada"s waterfall city and a home to over half a million people (statistics canada, 2012, 1). However, unfortunately, hamilton is home to a wealth of poverty. According to a mcmaster university study, there is a 21-year difference in life expectancy between the poorest neighbourhood and the richest neighbourhood (hamel, 2013, 3). Every city around the world, has some sort of issue regarding poverty, one way or another. Some cities and their provinces do devote the appropriate time, effort and money to improve the lives of those living in poverty. However, there are some that do not; unfortunately, hamilton is one of those cities. City council, the ontario government nor the people of hamilton are taking the initiative to change the statistics regarding poverty.
