What in society makes it hard for certain genders. Authority and control exercised by men over women. A state of affairs: control in institutions, ideology embedded in the culture of a society. Women are expected to fulfil particular roles with often disadvantage them. Girls hit a harm drop of self-esteem as they enter puberty. Boys and girls face ridged gender norms. Women are less likely to be writers. Less women in the legislature and house of commons. Pink collar = service positions (2009) 67% worked as teachers, nurses, service, sales. Who are the roles models are kids are seeing. Walt disney movies and princesses have been highly influential. Frozen: not the classic story of a prince and a princess, 2 strong female characters, doesn"t end up with the guy, but rather her sister. Role models are beginning to challenge stereotypes about gender roles.
