People effect and are affected by their environment. If the environment is not supportive, people can be damaged. Looks at the qualities of the person and the qualities of the environment. People"s needs change over time, and vary by culture. Goodness of fit: when the needs of the person are matched by resources in the environment, when demands and expectations = capabilities. Physical dimension: safety, grab bar in the washroom. Their safety will affect their autonomy and what they are able to do. If they can"t do their own cooking bc they can"t reach stuff, they have less autonomy: structural, elevator, privacy. If ppl don"t have privacy then they don"t have autonomy etc. : orientational aids a. b. ** ecological is not just about the environment but how the environment will affect their sense of identity, sense of competency and autonomy . Expectations can be too high, this leads to frustration and depression.
