Government role is to control where market would fail. 33 trillion dollars a year sustains all life on earth or 4500 per inhabitant, Planned obsolescence- designing things for disposal perceived obsolescence- when customer is convinced he needs a new product. Goal of industrial ecology is to make one industry"s waste another"s raw material. Link industrial design and process to the surrounding environment.
