They can also establish the relationship between the characters environment and the groupings of the characters. So you can implicitly show relationships of characters through their costumes. The costume designed created impressions and expectations for the viewer. Direction (does it come from above or below etc) Shape and size about the shape and size of the light source and how it looks on the stage. Quality is the light sharp or diffused. This is determined on the focus of the light source. Character texture/pattern i. e. the light looks like the texture of the window. Relative brightness that can change focus on the change. Duration of changes: how quickly does the light change (i. e. does the light suddenly turn off or fade away?)
