Paul shredders article notes on film noir . In this article, he identifies cultural and stylistic features of film noir. He looks at influences (4 in particular): post war period and its disillusionment, post war realism and desire to see films placed where they, german influence of expressionism, the detective fiction would actually happen like documentary effect. Stylistic devices that are used in film noir and themes are broad ranged. For example, a theme of killers on the run and of doppelgangers are often seen. Temps perdu- a period of lost time, a time that has already passed, is a central theme. This creates a sense of nostalgia, a dark past. He says that noir has 3 phases: 1941-1946: here, the noir hero is a pi, or a lone wolf character that is involved in some kind of criminal activity.
