Sex, gender, and sports: sex is a classificatory scheme that divides humans into two groups on the basis of their body"s reproductive capacities, male or female. It is reductionist, it reduces our ideas about sex and gender to overly simplistic binary categories. Include: traditional gender ideologies are evident and produced in everyday life, what bodies should look like and do, clothing, expectations of employment and life ambitions, 2 bathroom system, expected sexual partners, unacknowledged male privilege. What does this mean: multiple negative outcomes on the participation of girls and women in sport, promotion of cosmetic fitness, continued struggle for economic support and media representation, continued promotion of certain activities being more appropriate. Implementation or continued promotion of rules and regulations that are based upon false assumptions: certain types of masculinity and femininity are promoted and privileged, there can be consequences to not adhering to gender norms.
