Based in the idea that artists should be responsible for the fabirc of the new state. Bauhaus went even further than de stijl / constructivism by letting function dictate form. Essential components it paid attention to: light, form, detail, space, and the human condition. Mies van der rohe founded ithe international school of architecture. Bauhaus magazine: shows the principal forms of teh engineer on the cover. Expressionism dominated german films, such as the cabinet of dr. caligari, Posters created for these films try to capture their emotional qualities. Bauhaus was initially expressionist, later switching to the machine aesthetic. Gropius was appointed as principal of the bauhaus school in 1919; he was greatly interested in creating a total work of art. He taught paul klee & kandinsky at the school. The school existed in weimar from 1919 to 1925. Elbers was a female bauhaus designer; her works had a hard-edged geometric look.
