ANAT 101 Lecture Notes - Lecture 19: Extraocular Muscles, Collagen, Retina
Document Summary
Continuation of skin around orbital area going down to cover eye. Function: protection, lubrication, dust, debris removal: exocrine glands located in eyelid to help with lubrication. Eye lashes prevent foreign debris from entering eye. Palpebral lines inside of eyelid, bulbar part on eyeball. Sensitive to pain since there are many free nerve endings. Almond shaped, located superior, medial side of eye. Tears from lacrimal glands, to lacrimal ducts, to lacrimal pores, to lacrimal canals, to lacrimal sacs, to nasolacrimal duct, to nasal cavity: connection between eyes and nose so tears can actually get to nose. Tears: reduces friction remove debris prevent infections b/c contains enzymes to destroy bacteria provides nutrients, nourishes conjunctiva, provides o2 to cornea. Extrinsic are located outside of eyeball, intrinsic are located inside eyeball. Outside eyeball so when they contract, move eyeball to direct field of vision. Origin: surface of orbit (bony region of skull where eyeball goes); common tendinous ring (5/6 of them originate from here)
