Cranial vault (skull cap) : if you take the cap off the skull, you open the vault, exposing the cranial base. Cranial base (floor) : looking down onto the base/floor of the cranium. Cranial cavity: completely upside down skull, bottom of the cranial base/floor. Forms the lateral and inferior walls of the skull. Features: zygomatic process: bony projection from side of temporal bone. These are all points of attachment for some muscles. Very important because they represent the only two point of contact between the skull and spine related to vertebra. Sphenoid bone: can"t see very well, sit right in the middle of the base of the cranial floor.
