development
9th week to delivery, maturation of organ sys, conceptus called fetus
Cells differentiate to form tissues of body, rapid cell growth of body structures, 2.7-
4.1 kg 22inches long
Uterus grows (holds 5L)
Labour (stim
by oxytocin+
prostaglandins)
Dilation: begins w onset true labor, cervix dilates, fetus begins to move down
cervical canal, amnion ruptures
Expulsion: cervix completely dilated, cont until fetus completes emergence, easier
w smaller skull and large pelvic outlet (episiotomy to enlarge passage for baby)
C-section: cuts trhy ab wall + part of uterus to remove baby
Placentral: muscle tension increases in empty uterus tearing connection b/n
endometrium and placentra ejection of placentra
Placentophagy: eating placentra
Neonatal
period
Birth 1 month after, baby needs APGAR score
A ppearance of skin- 0 is blue= cyanotic heart defect, 2= pink baby
P ulse- 0=none, 1= <100, 2= >100 bpm normal= 120-140 bpm
G rimace response to stim 0= no rx, 1= facial mvmt, 2= pulls away, cry
A ctivity- muscle tone, 0=loose, 1=some tone, 2= active mvmt
R espiration rate- 0=none, 1= slow irregular, 2= good normal=30 breaths/min
Fetus to
neonate
Lungs fill w air + alters cardiovascular circ- BP + flow
rate, ducuts arteriosus/ligamentum arteriosum +
foramen ovale/fossa ovalis closes, completes pulm +
systemic circuits
Urinary: urinary loses high bc kidney cant conc urine
