ANAT 312 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Calcarine Sulcus, Visual Cortex, Visual Agnosia
Document Summary
The left visual field for both eyes projects to the right side of the retinas. Which then relays it to the right thalamus and right cortex. The right visual field for both eyes projects to the left side of the retinas. Which then relays it to the left thalamus and left cortex. All fibres from the nasal (medial) half of each retina, cross to the contralateral optic tract. All fibres from the temporal (lateral) half of each retina pass through the lateral portions of the chiasm without crossing and enter the ipsilateral tract. Therefore, each optic tract contains fibres arising in the temporal retina of the ipsilateral eye and the nasal retina of the contralateral eye. This design allows us to have depth perception by combining the images from each eye. Remember the image in the retina is reversed and inverted!!!!!!!
