It was very expensive and there was not a reliable source. Renaissance, astrology was widely practiced to see a kind of order in the universe and praise great patrons: this is a particularly lavish example of this. The ceiling: painted by the same man who acted as the architect. It is how these constellations are arranged that tell us the time of his birth: these constellations are set against a blue background that references the heavens. Leonardo was known for his soft and shadowy painting style (the textures and the way he used oil paint: also for the twisting serpentine forms, an erotic interaction between the twisting woman and the swam. A counter intuitive manner of doing this: this becomes twisting for the purpose of twisting, made purposely complicated for the sense of motion, the exposed flesh is not the erotic element of this painting.
