In a sample of 41 men (18 - 35 y), metrics of sperm quality were negatively associated with mate guarding behaviour: number of motile sperm and velocity contribute to pc1. Sperm quality measurement: mate guarding from buss" mate guarding inventory form, found no difference in mate guarding intensity in males and females, however difference in tactics! Suggest two ways succeed: have low sperm quality but high mate guarding intensity to make up for it, and have very good sperm quality and not bother w/ mate guarding. Shady data: small sample size, and doesn"t look strongly negative. Indication that it does mater what female genotype. See bar heights where typically these males garnering 20% ish of female offsrping. S4 terrible sperm defender is female 5, but great in female 1. Suggests that in fruit flies, have a strong female component when two males put into competition. Don"t know cause, just know interaction (if males ejaculating diff number or if female choosing)
