Document Summary

Early rome: orientalizing and archaic rome. The main cemetery is on the esquiline hill . Lack of goods stays like that for centuries. Don"t have much from the cemeteries of rome. Not seeing large burial mounds or tombs of lavish goods: not that they didn"t do that but that the level of monumentality was much smaller. 7th and 6th century tombs are usually simple trench graves. Architectural part is minimal, if there is any: usually have very few goods. Resources being put into funerals are much much smaller. Not much to show have to pick up on the things that do exist. Some bronze weapons and helmets but this is an exceptional tomb and there are not many of those. Romans of later ages would have explained this as their being poor compared to the etruscans. Able to turn the tables because of their virtues, civic values ,etc.
