The war of troy (ilion): legend & history. Homer wrote iliad and odyssey: helped us understand what greeks though of their shared history. Expedition of a coalition of greek rulers against the city of troy. There was a group of people called the homeridae. Poetry was usually sung, like with a rhythm and a simple melody. Historical records like poetry were originally orally known and passed. Iliad & odyssey: one author or two: language used, and style led some to believe that there were two different authors, or it could have been one author at 2 different stages of his life. How can they reference things chapters before mentioned. It all depends on how skilled you think poets are. Language: artificial language with a mix of different dialects from different areas, poets travelled. Wedding of peleus and goddess thetis, but didn"t invite eris (strife)
