Rome and veii war m. furius camillus (capture in 396) In 480 bc, rome and veii, a walled etruscan city, went to war over control of the lower tiber: the war went on intermittently until the capture of veii in 396 by the roman commander, m. L. quintius cincinnatus, who had been a great consul in 460, was called to become dictator: after he defeated the aequi in 16 days, he resigned his dictatorship and went back to his farm. Political developments in rome: while the intermittent war with veii and the other wars were going on, there were a number of political developments in rome. In 451-450, the election of consuls was suspended and a board of ten (decemviri) was elected instead to codify the laws of rome: a board of 10 men coded the laws.
