Agamemnon gives achilles brise s and some nice gifts: not as much as offered before, achilles is portrayed like a fool here but e doesn"t care, he just wants vengeance. Thetis gets hephaestus to make achilles new, better armour: calls in a favour for helping him when he was thrown from olympus. Aristeia = period of time where hero has his finest moment: every hero in every epic will have his aristeia. Finally, hector is forced into single combat: chased three times around the walls of troy, tricked by athena into facing achilles, achilles kills hector. Achilles refuses to allow hector"s corpse to be ransomed for burial: drags his body around patroclus" tomb every day, defiles the corpse, still doesn"t sleep, eat, drink so he"s refusing humanity. The gods disapprove and tell achilles to return his body.
