What is the purpose of the animal: presense of soul of the animal. Life and consciousness: soul enables the body to be an animal more than the presence of matter. Not necessary because fish generate without testes: somehow its better for a male to have testes, it is thought that all animals are generated out of seed, and that seed comes from the parents. Must inquire whether both male and female produce seed. Seed can come from both parents as offspring can look like both parents. Does seed come from all parts of the body? (child has same nose, does seed come from the nose?) The proofs that can be argued that seed comes from every part of the body may be reduced to four. One of the natural parts (homogenous or heterogenous) Food: he hypothesizes its food, any residue from nutrition likewise, nutriment is potentially, the actual body part, semen is a residue from nutrition.
