Intertextuality: a termed coined by literary critic julia kristeva to denote the interdependence of literary texts. Contends that a literary text is not an isolated phenomenon but is essentially composed of a mosaic of past texts. Looks at how meanings in one kind of discourse are overlaid with meanings from another kind of discourse. It is given this name because they claim to sell dog meat, but they really only sell beef. But she tells the tourists it is dog meat because tourists like that kind of stuff. She is satirizing the bloodthirsty nature of the tourist. Native people live a beastly lifestyle, so they are interested in the novelty of eating dog meat; thinking that they are learning about a new culture.
