Energy is both produced and consumed by agriculture. In terms of providing food, it can be though of as an integrative measure of the environmental impact of production and distribution. All materials and all physical processes can be assigned an energy value. ~16 mj (1 hour of moderately heavy labour) Pro-rate = combine will last 20 years, x amount of harvest and x amount of energy required. Note the integrative feature of energy fuel, forage, human food and energy a value. It is important to do a complete energy accounting regarding physical activities.
