Both films were adapted from popular novels. What makes an adaptation effective: hunger games: Have the same traits that make them who they are. Visual techniques reinforce the rebellious nature of it. There is an uncomfortable shaky camera & rules are broken, making it uncomfortable to watch, disturbing. Pleased the audience that read it in the original medium and also pleasant to the new audience: battle royale: Film follows plot, themes and feelings well. Hunger games shies away a bit from the violence. Battle royale depicted brutal violence in a very different way from the. Showing violence as brutal, gory and painful, it becomes ore of a terrifying experience. Original rating was that no one under 15 could see it (has to do with rating system & personalization) Both the book & film were banned momentarily in japan. Shies away from violence, does not romanticize it. First person point of view; only see people die when katniss sees people die.
