Week 16 the modern western is going native. Our only example of a big production of hollywood film. All of academic work & all of creative work happens in dialogue w other people that are creative. Picasso: better at bringing forward things that other people are doing, would take things, do it better than others, and get money for doing it. Intertextuality: taking things that are others" ideas and claiming them as our, can sometimes be plagiarism i. e. solaris, with george clooney, taken from a russian film without credit. Homages are easier when they are recreated moments: i. e. music, small quotations, acts as a small reference point for a literate audience. There is the art form of remixes : not copyrighted music that is made to be your own is a new creation & the law recognizes this. Whether generic or not, there is always a lot of repetition.
