Does the batle of algiers actually represent a batle that happened: maybe not. The ight against the french colonizers is crushed by mathieu, then massive riots erupt a couple years later: why algeria gained independence does not have much to do with the batle, but rather smaller events that took place. The ilm does present to us the historical prophecies that led to algeria"s independence: when ilms deal with a history that we are not mediocrely familiar with and the ilm looks neorealist, it conveys to us, aestheically, authenicity. As a icion ilm, this ilm is a drama: drama is seen in the ight, the french army crushing the rebellion, the families being torn apart, etc. Thus, there wasn"t a real batle of algiers. In the ight for algerian independence, women were integral: they were planners, involved in ighing, strategy, at every level, the ilm shows them with the bombs but they couldn"t assemble them themselves.
