Document Summary

Fluvial landforms: are those shaped by running water (processes associated with overland flow and stream flow: deals with erosion and deposition of material by moving water. Dominate continental land surfaces at a global scale (regionally other processes may dominate, such as glacial, aeolian, waves, etc. ) Erosional landforms: shaped by progressive removal of earth"s material (e. g. ravines, canyons) Depositional landforms: shaped by relocation of earth material (e. g. fans, floodplains) Begins with impact of precipitation on surface, which lifts and moves soil particles known as splash erosion. Colluvium: deposition material accumulated at slope bottom where water slows and particles settle out. Alluvium: if reaches stream and eventually settles out. Rills: tiny channels initiated by breakup of sheet flow into concentrated flow (rill erosion) Gullies formed as rills enlarge or coalesce (gully erosion) rills (smaller systems) can contribute into larger gullies (larger system) Water flow is irregular and erosion is sporadic.
