Tess doesn"t have a lot of clothing on. The men"s faces are seen as menacing and he undresses a little which hints at sexual assault. Tess is extremely scared and vulnerable when approached from the man. Tess is undressing when approached making the hint at sexual assault greater. She is clearly afraid of what this man might do to her. She hides in the cave to escape. The man looks confident and strong when the camera is facing him. Tess cant protect herself and needs the bear. The only thing that scares away the man is the beast. Tess struggles in the water a bit. Tess is naked when she comes out again exploiting her sexuality. Tess"s seen as happy, doesn"t need a man. She"s seen as beautiful in the eyes of men. Her connection with nature saves her (the bear) She defeated the man and is now free to do as she pleases.
