Sjam referred to his ideal canada legislature as his greatest. In 1885, sjam legislated that the chinese could not vote: race and people of colour achievement, affirmative personal/familial identity and community belonging. The focus of people on colour, means that white people get to escape historical scrutiny. Whiteness is still the neutral race, it goes without saying: history, racism and resistance, whiteness: the unmarked race and race as historical/political. Making the west coast white: case study of british columbia: aboriginal peoples and a cosmopolitan colony. From the get-go the british were entering a diverse multi racial: masculinity: hardy backwoodsmen" and bachelor households. Masculinity was also important they wanted manly white people. People who came for the gold didn"t care about the future of bc: they wanted farmers to come and set down roots.
