John a macdonald campaigned in restricting free trade between the two nations. An act that made it illegal to seduce young women. If a man seduced a woman to have sex with him and promised to marry but didn"t marry the woman could take the man to court and charge him with seduction. Birth control was illegal during this time. Fathers usually pressed charges against those who seduced their daughters often against the daughter"s wishes. The campaign to make seduction illegal was a big debate in the late 1880"s. John a macdonald campaigned himself as the father of canada protecting his daughter. Mixing of sex and politics is time honored and very effective. History of people in their daily lives.
