Ginsburg was born in moscow to jewish parents, she was from a secular family. She was a respected historian and a longstanding member of the communist party. 1937 ginsburg was arrested on fabricated charges of participating in an underground terrorist organizations. She spent the next 18 years of her life in a series of prisons, and then the soviet gulag.
