Developed because of demand for laborers and the spanish crown organized laborers to different regions in latin america therefore, some masters had to acquire african slaves in order to compensate for loss of laborers. Brazil: indigenous slavery continued until the 18th century, but wasn"t a steady labor supply and could not be relied upon so had to resort to acquiring african slaves. Trade between europe and west africa began in 1440s. There was trading for goods (i. e. firearms, slaves, etc. As african peoples began to get firearms in exchange for people, creating tensions between. African tribes which led to the capture and enslavement of people. Rationalization of portuguese writing, in which it was stated that the only people being captured were infidels (non-christians). Furthermore, there were never any defenders of the indigenous peoples.
