Discussion: reconstruction is a huge subject, we"re mostly going to talk about black life and black political life during this time period. We"ll talk about the realities of reconstructing in the first half and in the second half we"ll talk about kkk. They are immensely important for recently freed slaves living in the south. Help try to find families, establish schools, negotiate contracts, also help freed blacks in court cases if they were wrongly convicted of things, howard. A lot come from the abolitionists who actually went out and did something: carpetbaggers came after the civil war, derogatory term against those from the north moving south for political and economical opportunity. They supposedly had bags made from cheap carpet. Importance of the state rights in the 19th century: left sour tastes in many confederate states mouths. In reality they were too ready, they never had a chance to be free.
