Document Summary

Hist 221 jewish history; september 27, 2016. Kingdom of priests, treasured possession, holy nation: these people are closer to god. Intermediary between normal people and god: jewish people are god"s treasured possessions. They are both slaves of god, but free at the same time: the nation is to be holy. Read isiah 56, 6-8, and isiah 66, 19-21: isiah 56. As long as you love god, respect the sabbath and follow the covenant, you can become a jew, even if you are a foreigner: isiah 66. Anyone can become a priest, as long as they are loyal to god. Read amos 1-3: god will forgive 3 transgressions, but the fourth will not be forgiven. He will bring fire to the walls of nations so they have no protection. He will forgive the israelites more easily, but will still punish them, though not as harshly. The fourth transgression is usually a violent crime, unnecessary military action.
