HIST 306 Holocaust Problems and Interpretations Tuesday, October 30 2012h Primo Levi  Trying to convey how it felt to be in the camps o Your sense of personhood was stripped the minute you set foot in the cattle cars o You were dead the minute you stepped out of the cars – it was just a matter of time o Were resigned to their fate  Attributes his survival to fate, to luck  Doesn’t mention God – doesn’t frame any of this around theology o He’s trying to look at his own experiences and write them down scientifically o Trying to understand the structure, geography, psychology, and economy of the place  Gives an almost objective account o Maybe his mind found that this was the best way to survive
