What makes a study rationale effective: research approach: reviewers of potential research studies want to know that the study has merit to both science and society. 7 qualities of compelling study rationales related to health research: the research focuses on a topic/thinking that= particularly novel/ innovative. The research is needed to confirm findings from another study, but in a new setting, population, or context. The health issue under study affects lots of people, directly or indirectly. The health issue has serious short or long-term impacts on health and disease outcomes. The health issue is costly, financially or otherwise, to people and society. A synthesis of existing peer-reviewed studies has pointed to the research question/hypothesis as the logical next step in the field. The research will lead to a practical opportunity for a prevention program or treatment. Epistemology: a branch of philosophy concerned with determining what can be known and how it can be known.
